I am the eldest of three daughters working in the business and have been managing the shop since 2016. I love food, speaking to people and the environment. I also spend a lot of time in the kitchen at home cooking and baking with my two little boys, so this is my perfect job.

Turkey Talk

Copas free range turkey

Change

We are creatures of habit here at Ardross and aren’t the biggest fans of change. When Roger and Sue from Gartmorn phoned us last year to say they weren’t doing their fabulous free range turkeys anymore we were very apprehensive. We’ve been working with Gartmorn for over 15 years. We had visited their farm numerous times, knew they were great farmers and trusted them with our Christmas turkey orders. This was going to be a big change.

Free Range Turkeys

We knew that we would not compromise on welfare or taste going forward. Having seen how much space and access to trees and woods the turkeys at Gartmorn had, it was a priority to find a farmer with a similar ethos. Furthermore their slow growing, bronze turkeys were delicious and well received by all our customers. In addition to this we wanted someone who could give us and our customers excellent customer service. If you order a 5kg turkey you don’t want to turn up on Christmas Eve and collect an 8kg bird. Likewise you need to know it won’t be considerably smaller either. The hunt was on for a new supplier.

Copas Free Range Turkeys

We spent many months looking for a new supplier of turkeys. Local is always what we try to go for, but sadly there isn’t many local free range turkey farmers. We contacted local butchers to ask who they worked with. Surprisingly, the majority don’t sell free range birds. A few local farmers we spoke to could supply us but not with specific weights. Some others could supply us but the price would be considerably higher.

We’ve know about Copas Turkeys for a number of years. We’ve met them at trade shows numerous times and a number of our customers already bought from them. After speaking to their team we were really impressed with their set up, husbandry and customer service. We admit, they aren’t local. However, they ticked every other box. Copas is was!

Christmas 2022

We are delighted that after our first year of selling Copas turkeys we have been flooded by wonderful feedback from customers. One customer even emailed Copas themselves

‘Just wanted to say thank you for the best turkey we’ve ever had. It was a turkey crown and it was tender and delicious. We ordered it from Ardross Farm and will definitely be ordering one this Christmas’

After such a big change we are incredibly happy to get such wonderful feedback.

This Christmas

Every year we learn and improve our system for taking orders. Making your Christmas as easy and stress free as possible is our mission. It’s a busy time of year for everyone and we hope that ordering with us is hassle free and even enjoyable. Thankfully some customers agree, here are a few quotes from customers writing to us after Christmas 2022:

‘Flawless and stress free service as always from Ardross’

‘Just a note to say thanks for all the great produce and the easy and enjoyable ordering/payment/collection service you have in place.’

‘Perfect – really simple, really efficient (and happy elves!)’

It’s a long time away at the moment however if you would like to be the first to know what we have on offer this Christmas please sign up to our newsletter. It’s found at the bottom of this page here

The Copas turkey was probably the best one we’ve ever had. Easy to follow cooking instructions with moist and tasty results.
