Ardross Frozen Meal Review
Posted 29 May 2009
We are delighted to have received a great review from Happy Families Online for our range of COOK Ready Meals. After tasting a selection of the meals in one and two portions this is what they had to say about them;
"This is a range of gourmet ready to eat frozen meals that follow the strong principles that it must look homemade and
more importantly taste homemade. Ardross Farm Shop has teamed up with COOK, selling a selection
of their frozen ready meals, which is a great alternative to eating out or take-away, these ready meals are as good as
Mum's home-made cooking.
The family run Ardross Farm Shop in Fife is renowned in the area for their range of ethically produced foodstuffs, all of which are sourced locally, or from small family run businesses around the country. The family-run business sells an excellent variety of fresh, organic, home-made luxury products throughout the year. The range is simple with a strong plastic container and film wrapped with a simple plain brown outer shell that contains all the ingredient details and also has space for a sticker. The sticker has the best before dates and also ingredients, but to add a personal touch it also tells you who cooked your dish! There are presently a dozen chicken dishes, ranging from Moroccan style to chicken Dijon, yes there is a tikka version), as well as seven beef, four pork, six lamb, three fish and four vegetarian dishes.
The 'Hearty Fishermans Pie' is just that and is a one portion sized 460g container for just £4.50. It is a shepherd's pie, but with fish, and primarily salmon, but with some haddock and coley too. Layered with a topping of mashed potato that also soaks up the fishy sauce flavour, which is comprised of white wine and tomato, and there is a dash of parsley there too to add a certain something extra to the flavour.
We also looked at the 'Chicken Alexander', again a one portion serving at 290g for £3.75. This comprises chicken breast pieces and they have been marinated in a white wine and sherry sauce. The dish comes with mushrooms and peppers. This received a big thumbs up both for the taste and the size of the portion which our reviewer, who normally prefers to cook from scratch was impressed with. She thought the careful mix of ingredients and the quality of the chicken was first class.
Finally we looked at a double portion. This was the 'Pork Stroganoff' which is 520g and costs £7.35. As the name suggests this is a paprika based dish which features strips of pork and mushrooms which are in a sauce comprised of sherry, brandy and of course paprika. We actually tried this out with a side salad prepared by ourselves and found this really brought out the flavours. Cook founder Edward Perry said: "We are delighted to be supplying Ardross Farm Shop with a selection of our ready meals.
This is a great example of how independent food companies, who care about the quality and sourcing of ingredients and the way food is prepared, can come together to offer customers an alternative to the supermarket shopping experience."
